Mary Karen Read

Mary Karen Read, 19, was a freshman majoring in interdisciplinary studies. She played the clarinet and was a member of her high school marching band in Annandale, Va., winning the band's "Best Smile" award in her senior year. She loved baking, and her friends treasured her "heavenly cookies." She had wanted to become an elementary school teacher.
